Hey Guys,

Picking up my first V next week, 2013 V2 Sedan. Already ordering some parts and I'm curious on what you guys like for a daily driven, occasional WOT pull merging on highway. Don't plan to track the car as I'm decently far from a track. The car will honestly be driven easily majority of the time. What do you guys prefer on keeping things cool?

Goal is a 550-600 WHP sleeper setup

2.4" Upper Combo
Stock manifolds w/ cat's delete
Airaid w/ Green Filter
1000CC (Most likely Deatschwerks or FIC)
Possibility of E85

Here are the options as I see them:
  • Weapon-X Track Attack - Most popular option. Similar dimension as the stock HX, but thicker. Main benefit over other options is that you can enable the factory fan to run through HP Tuners, which will pull air through the HX and cool it when in the staging lanes.
  • Wide low-mount HX (I have the Weapon-X) - Takes up all of the lower grill with an attractive look if you come from the turbo world. Main benefits come while driving as this offer high surface area exposed to fresh air and blocks less of the radiator. I'm a road course guy, so I chose this over the TA. For daily shenanigans I would have chosen it as well.
  • Dual core, i.e. Vadder - Takes up both upper and lower grills, offering the highest surface area. There has been some debate on how well it actually cools, since once the water has heater up it will take longer to cool down due to the increase volume of water. Installation is far more involved than the other options.
With any of the options above, get an upgraded pump and run an expansion tank. You won't need an ice tank for your purpose, but you can always get an expansion tank that is setup for ice in case you do decide to hit the strip.

Have you done any research here?

Yes I have. Coming from experience with LS platforms, this is my first LSA car so I am a little overwhelmed with the wide variety of pumps and HX's that are available. Looks like the Pierburg CWA100 and C&R HX seem to be a good combo. Just seeing what others have used for expansion tank and anything else for a daily driver with occasional WOT pull.

Looking towards the Cooling Combo that DM offers. C&R HX, Pierburg CWA100, and upgraded lines (is this a must?)

I got the Vadder dual HX + 2gal tank, and its tits.
Past weekend my AIT2s were 8 degrees over ambient at the end of the 1/4, I spray meth as well thu.
Only downside with this unit is that it runs a little hotter in the city, I've since upgraded to larger radiator, and gonna go with Dewitt spal fans here in a bit.

Not a must but it’s definitely helpful, in order to do full 3/4 lines you’ll need to get the upgraded manifold for the lid either for the v or ZL1 whichever your running. The factory hard lines are pretty restrictive with the bends so it makes sense to Eliminate them. If your going through the effort to do the hx and pump it’s probably only another 100$ to do the lines so you might as well.

I'm an outlier still rocking the stock HX. I focused on a better pump (ZR1), 3/4" lines & a underhood tank. Temps stay around 30ish over ambient which is all I need with the car only being used as a daily. Temps do climb on pulls but always recover just as quick.

How much power are you making? Wouldn't mind trying this route. Stock HX, and a Pierburg CWA150 to see how it does

No idea but somewhere between 650-700whp (hopefully closer to 700whp).

Just monitor temps and make a decision if you want/need to upgrade.
