Besides taking it to a professional, what would be my best methods for repairing/ correcting this?
Terrible place for a rock chip.

Part out. It's totaled!

But seriously a good body shop may be able to touch it up. You will always know it's there but from 5ft no one other than you will probably see it.

Doctor color chip matches pretty well, fill in the chip until it’s level or slightly over filled probably a couple coats depending on how deep it is, then wet sand it nice and smooth with 2000 grit and buff it. See if your happy with that

Body guy just told me this:

Get the color, dilute it and get enough in there to color over the exposed primer.

Then over fill with clear and wet sand lightly. On a corner you'll have to be very careful to not cut through the OEM clear while you do it

the pearl is a bitch, best you can hope for is for it to look better from 5-8' away with a small dab of paint
obviously not worth painting the entire fender especially being so close to the hood they would probably have to blend onto the hood for the pearl to blend right

To add to this: Get a fine detail brush from an art store to use. Don’t try to use the brush in the detail paint bottle. And set up some strong lighting so you can really see what you’re doing.

Thanks, guys. Time to find the paint and brush. I should already have the wet sand paper and 2000 grit.

Get a medical grade syringe and fill it with the touch up paint. Slowly fill up the chip with the needle and use a heat gun to dry each layer. Wait a few days and once it's slightly domed, use 1500 to 2000 grit sand paper to knock it down flush, gently polish.

That's the best you can get without painting the panel.

I would use a Loew-Cornell fine line pen touch up tool starting with a straight white as a base, the pearl white in between, and clear as the top coat. Although not perfect, I use this method to touch up my wife’s Escalade with acceptable results.

Ammo NY on YouTube also uses the Loew-Cornell fine line pen with good results. There are some tutorials from Ammo NY on YouTube which could be helpful.

Not as bad as when you scrap the same spot with your head when reinstalling it 🤦‍♂️. Key is to fill it before touchup. Hit it with some filler and then leveler till it's flat. Then paint with a fine brush and buff it. Won't be perfect, but will be hard to see unless you look at the exact angle.

Did you ever get this fixed SimplyDreamin? Just curious how it turned out and what you used? My vote was for Dr Colorchip. I’ve used with pretty good success, and I’m always interested in learning these particular issues

Not yet, Kenny. Things should be slowing down around here, and I should have the time to address it.
Still not sure which method I’ll use.

Well, like I said, I’ve had great success with Dr Color Chip. As long as you take your time and put the work in it, and go slow. When you get around to it let us know how it turns out. (y)
