Do any of you guys here have an EV in the garage alongside your V's? If you have EVs, which models are they and how do you like them?

My wife and I bought a Tesla Model 3 a few years ago. (It replaced our E90 M3 that broke down so much that we couldn't take it!) I find myself getting into the Tesla more frequently that the V. Some of it is wanting to keep miles off the V, but it's equally true that the EV is quieter and more calming thanks to its smooth electric powertrain. I also really like the Level 2 "self driving" cruise control on long highway trips. (I so wish Cadillac put Super Cruise into the Blackwings!)

Don't get me wrong, the V wagon is a keeper and the Model 3 isn't, but sometimes I just want a nice appliance.

Up until last month, the Model 3 was my favorite EV as it's surprisingly practical (considering its compact size) and it's pretty decent on a twisty road, too. But then I tried a Tesla Model Y SUV (my review is here) and found that most of my complaints with the Model 3 -- bad blind spots on the A-pillars, stiff ride, noisy highway ride -- have been resolved with the Model Y. So now I have a new favorite EV...at least until I try a Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT! 😂

Best,
Mike

I've been wanting an EV lately, but they're incredibly expensive right now compared to any used gasser I can find.

Gonna have to hold out for another couple years for things to calm down and for the new EVs that are attractive on the market to calm their tits on pricing for used stuff.

EDIT: Should add, I have no interest in getting a Tesla; nothing wrong with people that like them though, of course.

I hate the giant center mounted iPad for all gauges/controls in the 3/Y. I also hate the yoke and no physical shifter in the S/X. If I had the $$ I'd love to try out a Rivian or Lucid.

I got me one of these beauties. That's about as far as I plan to go, electric-vehicle-wise, until someone comes up with a better battery. I expect the electric cars being bought now are going to be obsoleted by new battery technologies within the next 5-10 years. You'll still be able to maintain them, but their resale value will drop to nothing because everyone will want the new batteries with increased range and faster charging times.

I have never heard anyone describe the Model Y as "cooler" than the Model 3...or any other car for that matter lol.
While the Y looks slightly less terrible than the Model X, it is FAR from good looking or cool.

I have driven a Taycan Turbo S and it was pretty awesome but EVs are just so damn heavy.

I really like the looks of the Ioniq5 and EV6! I know Kia still has its federal EV tax credit available...I wonder if the dealers are putting ADM on them too. If not, it would be a high $30k EV with the credits.

Just one question....

if one of these is a CAR the other is an SUV.... how do you tell?
The one that is slightly more bloated is the SUV. 😂

Yeah, neither the 3 or the Y is an amazing design, aesthetically. I think the Model 3 is the only Tesla with decent proportions.

That said, the shapes they picked for the 3 and Y really work well for forward visibility and rear trunk space. You get a hood that drops like in a mid-engine supercar, and a trunk with serious capacity.

But the visuals are pretty ugly.

Hah, yeah I really do like the I5 and EV6, I lean towards I5 personally on exterior and interior design. I'd like to be in an SEL or Limited, Want AWD and not RWD, and more preferring of the limited, but they're expensive for me right now. They do qualify for the fed credit still, but that's on your taxes, it's not on the OTD price. I'm in CT, so we have Danbury Hyundai in state not too far from where I live, they do MSRP only pricing on their cars, so I can get one with no markup. Their waitlist is long, however, of course due to this.

Second for me would be a Lightning, I still miss my Sierra every now and then when I'm doing yardwork and such. It was great for that of course. Those get expensive really quick too just like any truck if you're looking for something that isn't bottom trim.

Low inventories abound for anything, and especially the newer EVs on market right now. So regardless you're playing a waiting game. I can wait, even though I don't want to. :)

customer came in with that kia electric thing, it was pretty cool looking actually. I think better looking than a Y or 3
guy across the street from my shop just ordered a 3, he wanted a Y but said it looked too soccer mom. He ordered this after his GMC sierra with 6.2 bent a few pushrods, and for his 50 mile a day commute to his store.

I further confused and aggravated him when I said "see if you can get all seasons with the performance package otherwise plan on a 2nd set of wheels", so he didnt end up ordering the performance package lol

I've had my Plaid since last August and it's the best vehicle I've owned. I've put over 6100 miles on it so far and it still makes me laugh every time I floor it or race it. The thing will run 9s in the rain and it has been incredible cheap to operate compared to the 1100hp 3rd gen V that it shared a garage with. The utility, comfort, performance and tech of the car is unreal. Testing full self driving beta has been fun as well. I wasn't sure I would like electric but I'm completely sold on it now. I like being able to use it year round and in any weather. I couldn't do that in the caddy.

With the caddy just sitting around after its 2nd built motor, I finally decided to sell it last weekend. The plaid is about a half second quicker and requires no maintenance so it was a pretty easy decision. I will miss the sound of the V with the big cam and forced induction but everything else is better in the Tesla. I'm not giving up on V8s though.....I still have my truck and I've always wanted to restore and twin turbo the old nova I have tucked away.

I'm curious who will come out with an EV that will spank the tesla (one that isn't $200k+). I don't see it happening anytime soon so I'm guessing I will trade this one in on the next generation Plaid when it comes out years from now.

No EV but I bought this bike to save on fuel. I've only put a couple hundred miles on it so far and it's supposed to get 107mpg.

Tell me about the build and the sale?
Did today's seemingly inflating-daily market help you out of it?
Built 388ci lt4 with ported heads, diamond pistons, lunati pro billet rods, 2650, e85 port injection system, chiller, etc. She was a monster. It was turned down to 900whp when I sold it last weekend. Crazy money in the car...over $35k in parts alone and a fresh rebuild with less than 500 miles on the new block. In this current market I was able to get 80s which is more than I could have gotten a year ago. I still lost CRAZY money on the car but owned it for almost 6 years. I had my fun and was done with it. The new owner got a great deal as the car was fully loaded and only had 28k miles. I probably should have asked for 90 lol.

Only EV I have is a hedge trimmer.

But I run flex fuel so I guess that's almost as good!
