Mod or preserve?

Any extra value in a unmodified V?

So I found the proverbial used performance car….

Ad- “1 owner, 80 year old woman. All service performed by dealer as scheduled. No modifications or tunes. Only driven about 100 miles a week. Never taken over 80mph. No accidents or repairs.”

Decided to check into it and the story is true. Checked everything out, met the 80 years young lady, enthusiastically handed over the cash and took ownership of a pristine 2011 CTS-V. Question to all you V owners now is, does a never modified, low mileage, 1 owner, no paintwork V carry more value than a tastefully modified or tuned example does? Do I keep this car factory original?

are we talking like sub 10k miles ?

not enough for me to keep it stock
Not that new. So if it has over 10k it’s just ready and waiting for some modifications? Not really into drag racing. However experienced road racing mods would be appreciated….
I was asking if sub 10k miles because if it had like 3000 miles I would maybe advise to leave it stock but either way you can speculate that in 20-30 years if left stock you might be able to sell for the same price you paid.

or you can enjoy the car now. To me how you care for the car is more important than if its stock so if you road race it enough you may end up damaging it anyhow

Low mileage unmodified are worth more to most people that highly modified and potentially abused it’s entire life. I paid $42k a couple years ago for my 22k mile 2011 sedan, could have got a higher mileage modified for sig less

If it brings you happiness, go for it! For me it would be case by case, don't think any car is a good financial investment.

Unmodified is the only car I would buy JMHO
Enjoy it the way you want it to be and don't worry about who's gonna buy it in the future.

Ditto. I have had my stock 2013 CTS-V sedan,, 6 speed, for 7 trouble free years
ive only owned 2 V's but I can tell you whatever problems that car had they would have had no matter the mods in regards to any sun roof leaks, suspension, rear end, supercharger noise - actually thats a lie- a pulley and isolator swap solved that for me on my other V when my new supercharger was making noise after 1k or so miles
Depends on the goal.

If you're going to lightly drive around and show-sell in a decade or so....leave as virginal as possible.

If going to drive and get a taste of the potential; a CIA is well accepted "mod".
I mean if it's like a 30k mile car I would maybe keep it to reliability mods and a few easily reversible bolt ons.

In the end, did you buy it so that you can keep it nice and pristine for the next owner or did you buy it because you want to enjoy it? They respond really well to mods so do whatever makes you happy.
shame is for not tons of money you can add 50-100hp and with a tune really wake the car up and enjoy it even more.
one of the reasons I got into these cars was for the modablility

OK, humor me.... what is a CIA mod?
Just bought mine in October was a 1 owner no accident 7k mile silver sedan. I myself go back and fourth on molding it or not. When I was looking for one I wanted to mod it. But after finding such a clean car now I hesitant.

Exactly my thoughts. Ended up getting a 2014 sedan with 20k miles bone stock and paid 50k for it. Maybe a little pricy, but I like the piece of mind knowing it’s a little more reliable and hasn’t been beat on too bad…hopefully lol.

Damn autocorrect

CIA was supposed to be CAI Cold Air Intake
Ha, I thought the CIA mod was the stealth mod I've been looking for! Thanks

If you are buying a V as an investment then my personal opinion is that this forum is not what will benefit you most. To me this is a car that was designed and to be driven to appreciate the performance it is capable of even in it's stock form. Why own a car like this if you are never going to drive it as designed/intended? There are a lot of better investments that will yield better returns long term but you could be driving with a smile on your face everytime you take this car out of the garage today.

I just sold mine. Quoted it around at dealers with a lid/rotofab and had a bunch of lowballs around 5K under KBB low trade value. Restored to stock, tried again, and got into the KBB trade-in range. It definitely made a difference. They can't sell with the mods, and see dollar signs in having to restore (parts and labor)
