I am getting ready to do a rear diff fluid change and ordered severe gear 75W-90 oil. Do i need the friction modifier with this gear oil? Has anyone used amsoil for the rear diff?

Used it with GM additive. Had some growling when cold. Switched back to GM fluid and it was gone. General consensus around here is GM fluid for the diff.

Amsoil here with Gm friction modifier. No issues.

My diff was groaning on turns, not sure what fluid was in it or when it was changed (if ever). Local shop put Amsoil fluid and Amsoil friction modifier in about a year ago. After the fluid change, I had to do about 8-10 tight circles in each direction in a parking lot to work the new fluid into the diff and it's been silent since then.

Well there you go. With oil you will get 1000 different options.
