Hi all,

Thought I'd share this with you for a chuckle...

I tallied up my 1-year maintenance costs for my 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S. The total was ~$5k! I don't find this too surprising considering that A) it's German and B) the MSRP was $144k. I also had some inherited problems from the prior owners to fix. (Full story on my first year with the GT S is here on my blog.)

Compared to my old 2011 BMW M3, the AMG is down right reliable with zero CELs or breakdowns. But my CTS-V is by far my cheapest performance car; it didn't need any work last year!

Best,
Mike

Nice write up. This insane money being thrown around is just ruining our hobby. See the link…

About 40% went it to fixing broken interior trim, 20% into rear tires, and 40% into a major service.
What "major"?

My dad picked up a 2019 last month. I’ve got to say that this car is a blast to drive. It feels, act, and sounds more like a true exotic car versus something that you could daily without any worries. I just took it out this afternoon for a little spin and still can’t get over how good it sounds and how tight the steering feels. Glad to see you’re enjoying yours!

Nice! Yes, the steering is really a standout, as is the way it corners!

I have heard that these can have transmission problems that come up and can cost upward of 30K to put in a new one. These cars are great looking and one of my favs.....

I noticed that my car's transmission warranty was extended by Mercedes at some point. That also points to some prior problem.

I have had my V2 for over 5 years now and I haven't done anything except fluids and tires lol. Clutch fluid recently and oil changes otherwise literally no maintenance needed its crazy these things are very reliable as long as you aren't going crazy with mods (Im pulley, HX, Intake)

I have a bit of track time in the GT-R and am a big fan. It's a handful, but in a good way. Not blisteringly fast, but tons of fun. The R is out of my price range, but I've been strongly considering upgrading my CTS-V to a GT-S.
