Hey all! After 20+ years as a BMW guy, I’d like to say I’m maturing into a better platform. 2nd gen CTSV has been my #1 must own car for a while now, and it’ll soon be time to bite the bullet. Turning 40 is a milestone id like to mark with an LSA in my driveway, and a vette isn’t practical for me.
with all that said- many of the BMWs have an “they all do that” handful of issues, and these are usually a sticky thread near the top of the forums. Didn’t see one here - so wondering what to look for in the second gens?

First, welcome to the forum.
Second, but most important at the moment... you should remove the blatant classifieds rule violation from your post ASAP because the mods here are going to toss you out.
Being glib doesn't help and clever won't save you.
Thanks for the welcome. I read the rules, and perhaps mis-interpreted them? I read it as i can't join then post for sale, and i cant make random crap posts to get myself to the minimum post count. I respect those rules, and understand why they are there. I also feel like it would be counter intuitive to not let me BUY off the classifieds. Totally support whatever decision the mods make here. I know this community is far more mature than the BMW forums crew.

Counter-intuitive though it may be, please understand that
1. it's not negotiable or open for debate from what I've witnessed.
2. circumventing the rule will get you BANNED
3. I'm not a mod, this is none of my business.
I'm simply trying to help you by letting you know that as soon as the mods SEE your post you will be booted. We've all seen it here... they are amazingly consistent.

Welcome! Agree with above. Take that out right away if you plan to stick around. The mods have zero tolerance for it. They are extremely protective of the members and there have been problems in the past with scammers. So just wait till you get the 50 posts before even thinking about anything to do with classifieds. There are a myriad threads you can participate in even without any V knowledge. At the same time don't try to spam your way to 50 with a bunch of BS 'nice' or 'haha' posts either. That will get you banned quick too.

Look around, there are many many threads about the common issues associated with each generation of Vs.
The list is quite short when weighed against the performance class of vehicle you are dealing with. There are no VANOs issues or SMG issues or S85 rod bearings to deal with, yet the V will best it's then-current M5 competitor in every contest including the Nurburgring.
I'm always pleased to see Beemer guys checking out the V.

Love it... im about to be a convert from, BMW Great cars, too many common fails on the S motors... Funny you mention the S85, i sold my e92 M3 (s65) with 99K miles on the clock, never did the rod bearings. Recently saw it for sale in the BMW FB groups, VIN matched car, so i know its mine. Listing says "Previous Owner did rod bearings at 99K i do not have paperwork for it but its done"... lol, previous owner was me, and i never did them... Tick..tick. tick... boom 20K engine replacement. Ive always eyed the V's, and never bit the bullet. Im going for it!

Awesome thanks for the tips!

2nd gen has diff issues? ut-oh! Thought that was 1st gen only...
Whats the "guiding principal" mileage interval on the supercharger needing to be refreshed / rebuilt?
Gen2 has diff noise issues. They will whine but they do not break.
Gen1 diffs would famously 'explode' (rupture) as they were alloy and too weak.
Gen2 diffs are hella strong (I've yet to see a pic of a busted one) but can make noise.
The blower will effectively last 'forever' but there's a shaft isolator in it that can make noise and it is a cheap fix.

Do the searches, read up.

by now most 2nd gens with noisy diffs have been rectified, short filled from the factory and honestly in the grand scheme of things its cheap if it goes on you. its not like you need a complete redesign of the rear like a v1, guys are in the 9s on factory diffs and transmissions

My '14 MN6 Coupe is going on 8 years old. In all that time the only thing that I've needed done to the car besides LOF Tires and Brakes (I track the car) is the blower rattle fix, which GM warrantied with no argument at all, a rusted lower radiator hose clamp, and a sunroof rattle that I fixed myself. It's due for headlamp replacement, the plastic is started to get a little scratched up and moisture is leaking in. Paint even is still just fine. Only 45K miles so still on the first clutch, though I'm probably coming due soon.

Don't forget the fuel pump hat - probably the worst of all if you can't do it yourself.

True, new pump, hat, cut floor, patch floor, get hose fabricated... That was fun two years ago... I still have the old pump as a backup since I bought the aluminum hat and a new fuel pump assembly with both pumps and new float. Also, the Merican Motorsports floor cover plate.

S65 is over rated in my opinion. Costs a fortune to make 450 hp. The 4.4 liter is the motor that should have been brought to the states for the E9x platform. Either way the v beats it on every level and I've had them both. I will say my e90m3 sounded the tits with the 3" pipes and side exhaust.
