Record Tune Only ATSV 1/4 mile [email protected]

My goal from the start has been 10s in this car tune only and finally was able to do it today and went pretty deep.

The car is a 2016 ATS-V sedan with a M6 transmission. The car is 100% factory stock besides being tuned from 93+ boostane and a 275 drag radial on some cheap 17x9.5 wheel on the back.

After going [email protected] last year and having some issues a few weeks ago with the launch and getting halted at an 11.0, I finally figured out what the car likes and busted out a [email protected] with a 1.58 60 foot.

Also got 28 mpg on the way home.

I really think the ATSV is one of the most under rated cars on the road and a bargain in the used market these days

    Nice run Justin!

What RPM were you launching at?

You know you want to come to Cecil on the 7th.

Its a bit tricky with the turbo, cant hold a steady rpm or it wont build any boost, have to kinda trick it into having load so the best way to do that without a step is to go from idle and just floor it and time the release of the clutch.

On this run it looks like I let the clutch out around 5,900 rpm, at that point I was seeing 8.4 pounds of boost, tires grabbed and dropped down to around 2,800 rpm by 20 mph and just went from there.

Wow. Certainly different than a CTS-V. Assuming a dead hook and then pulled the rpm down. What does the rpm drop down too on the launch?

On that run it was pretty much a dead hook, rpm dropped down to 2800 by 20 mph or so at its low and went.

I had some other runs where the tires dead hooked and the car shut me down for clutch protection lol

the first run i went 10.8 with some slight tire spin though, it seemed to like a bit of spin better than a dead hook for the most part, definately a balancing act

Should probably be running a bias ply slick rather than a radial honestly

That’s impressive! I like the no-holds-barred approach to wrestling that think off the line! I wish I could still do it. After years of blowing up clutches, drive shafts and reareds in other cars, I’m a little more timid in my old age. Lol!!

haha, well luckily it seems the V cars are all overbuilt cause ive never had any type of issue with hurting a clutch shaft rearend axle or anything on any of my V cars

but yea, only way to get the most out of the car is to full send it!

That is a kick ass number from a tune only car. I too feel that it's a very under rated car. Even though there is a 176 horse power difference between the ATS-V and CTS-V, there is also a 400 pound difference between the two as well. I drove an ATS-V at a V-Lab event and the difference in weight was very noticeable. Not sure if this old rule of thumb is still true but back in the days they would say that 100 pound reduction was equal to a .10 reduction in your ET.

Any mods in the foreseeable future with a 9 second time slip to accompany them?

Thanks, it really is flying for having only a tune.

Correct, on paper there is a 176hp difference between the ATSV and V3 CTSV, although I think in reality, the power gap is smaller when you look at wheel horsepower. Typical V3 CTSV will put down 550~rwhp from what ive seen and seems like the average power the ATSVs are putting to the tires is 420-440rwhp. That gives you an actual gap of about 110-130 rwhp. Combined with the 400 lbs weight gap and RWD traction limitations, you can see why the ATSV is right on the heels of the CTSV even stock and is arguably the better handling/track car as you noticed at Vlab.

I think the best way to get to 9s would be turbo upgrades, as of now thats still a work in progress for this platform but we are pretty much hitting a wall with out factory turbos in the mid 10s~ give or take.

I will most likely stick to some basic mods in the near future, intake, downpipes, maybe pick up some skinnies and see what I can do, would love to see some turbo upgrades in the factory frames for an affordable price but we shall see

Justin what are you expecting to gain with downpipes and intake? You seem to be mile an houring higher than guys with those mods already.
How's the driveability with your tune?
You've got me seriously considering a ATS-V. My V2 is a beast but the handling of the the new car is superior.

Im really not sure what to expect since theres really not a ton of information on these cars out there like that.

I can say the intakes/downpipes certainly wake the car up under the curve, boost comes in harder/faster, car feels stronger on the street for sure, but we are also limited in how fast we can bring in boost mid range with stock fuel system. What this will translate to on the drag strip, if any, no idea. I would think it should pick up some power and mph for sure though

driveability is perfect, drives like stock until you start to get into it and notice you have tons more power on tap, driver demand tables can be changed to make the car drive like stock, or make it drive like its hopped on on crack depending on what you want the car to drive like

yep, the V2s are powerhouses for sure, the ATSV just has a big advantage in the weight and handling department and is proving that it can be a pretty damn quick car with the right tuning.
