24* on 91 octane on boost is very high. I think most guys running 93 run up to 22*, but not positive.

I could run up to 21* on 93 depending on winter vs summer blends (on the dyno) but usually would get some trace KR on the street. Now I run 19* max on 93 for comfort after switching to iridium plugs. The other 93 octane tunes I've seen also don't usually go past 19* for street; however I think 21* is very possible for a very well sorted combo on copper plugs with quality 93 gas.
Please enjoy my personal testing of common performance modifications, and as always: your mileage may vary!

There are safe "street" tunes and "on full kill" tunes.

A big factor is how much power is being produced.

Ported blower and heads with a modest cam builds a lot of cylinder pressure, which would reduce ignition lead, at and near peak torque.

Altitude, octane, cyl pressure, valve events, plug heat range and fueling all play a part. One of the worst things you could do is poll the internet for how much timing someone else with a different combo in a different place is running. I can tell you I love it when a customer brings in a car and tells me how much timing the internet runs.

Fuck that noise. I just edit all the cells in the High Octane timing map to 30* advanced, because I know the knock sensor and the computer will take care of the rest. On my "kill" tune, I change the low octane tables to 30* too - just to limit how much power I lose when the blower whine confuses the knock sensor.

    Serious.
