Exclamation GM Special Coverage Adjustment – Supercharger Warranty Extension

Not sure if anyone has posted this already, but my father-in-law is a parts manager at a GM dealer and he just sent me a PDF that I wanted to share. I can't post it due to it's size but would be happy to email anyone or perhaps someone else who can post it.

Short summary: supercharger warranty extended to 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km). This also applies to the Camaro.

EDIT: Oh, I found someone else who posted the PDF on a Camaro forum.

EDIT EDIT: The full PDF is now available here for Download, Reading, and Printing: Service Bulletin No: 13313 Special Coverage Adjustment - Supercharger Warranty Extension

Perfect, my last trip to the dealer said exactly what this letter says (rattle at idle, goes away at load) but they declined the work, not anymore.

    Thank you.

    Many thanks.

Any chance GM is getting a little paranoid? They seem to be eliminating any more criticisms on warranty/safety issues to the greatest extent possible ... as they probably should right now.

Any recall Gm was considering before the ignition recall, is now on! Flood gates are open

I just dropped mine off today for a S/C replacement, new recaro seats, new headlights and new tailights. I'm hoping that the new one has the solid isolator in it.

Is this a global bulletin or it only applies in the US and Canada?

It's straight from GM so I would assume global but if nothing else you can reference this if you're elsewhere. It's hard to ignore.

I certainly think so. They're out so much for the ignitions I get the feeling they want to lessen any negative publicity on their flagship car

Personally I think the Gm issue on the ignition is far less of a problem compared to the Toyota accelerator recall. Let's face it, all oem's that still use a turn key ignition are sweating bullets, Gm is just the first.

Every oem is sitting scared right now on their own pile of potential recalls, Gm is just cleaning house.

Geez... New Recaro seats just for rocking? The front anchor must be even worse than I heard. Head lights & taillights? Really?

Geez, even our supercharged Jag never had problems like these. Certainly no roots problems either. But, I'll take our V over the Jag any day of the week. Still...

Are the newer 2013/2014 cars less problematic on these issues? Thanks...

This is definitely a print and put in the glove compartment for future use. Whats the recall on the Recaros? Mine has just now started to rock side to side or corner to corner.

I took my father-in-law to the Long Beach Grand Prix as part of the Caddilac V coral/event thing. So now he's smitten with the car. He must have had his eye out for V bulletins at work, and sent it to me right away.

Ok just picked up car, they replaced the seat frame only and not the seat. But all of the rocking has stopped so I am happy.
The supercharger also has that red runner nipple near the snout like someone else previously posted. I'm not sure what it's for.

    ^^^^

I have a sporadic noise that I hear at idle every few seconds. I can't hear it in the car, only if I'm outside and it's obviously more pronounced when the hood is up.

I'm due for an oil change this week, so I'll just see what the dealer says.

I took my car back in today. They addressed the rattle on may 14th saying it was normal and it was the spring isolator but it was a normal condition.

Took it back in today with this report and the tech said even thought it rattles they wont change it unless it becomes a problem. I asked him at what point does it become a problem, when I am traveling with my family and the bearing over heats and the engine seizes in the middle of no where so I have to waste time/money on a problem they already have diagnosed. He basically replied with "we are not going to change your supercharger at this time"

Got home, called gm. Supplied them with the service order that said exactly what there bulletin says and they are calling the dealer tomorrow. They said from the wording it should be replaced.

Why my dealer is pushing back on this I dont know.

    Anyhow here comes a rant,

This is exactly what the dealers are trying to stand on when it comes to Tesla direct selling to customers. Their claim is the dealers are the middle man and will take care of recalls and service issues and they claim car manufactures wouldnt offer the same service. Bullshit, its exactly opposite in real life. I went threw this with Volkswagen with my wifes car, Mercedes with my Sprinter, and now a Cadillac dealer with my V.

I hate car dealerships and I hate car sales people (I have 3 close friends who sell cars lol, we don't talk about work)

    ^it's all about the money.

With the amount of recalls going around, GM should take care of these issues especially if it's official.

Yes, typically GM ships return parts back to the supplier where they are analyzed and/or scrapped.

    CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: A ‘clattering’ / 'knock' / 'rattle' noise may be heard from the engine.

NOTE: Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply.
    REPAIR PROCEDURE:
    1. NOTE: Removal of the supercharger drive belt and running of the engine to verify the noise is emanating from the supercharger assembly must be done prior to the fitting of a new supercharger assembly.

Remove the supercharger drive belt and rotate the supercharger pulley by hand:

If there is a 'clunk' / 'knock' noise from the supercharger or significant free play when turning the pulley before the rotors start to turn and not one of the symptoms below, install a supercharger spring isolator kit (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 303-12C).
If any of the following symptoms are present, replace the supercharger assembly. To be performed as a separate claim.
    • The pulley does not rotate freely ('sticks', difficult to move, roughness felt in bearing); and/or

    • The blades / rotors are damaged; and/or

    • Customer reported excessive 'whine' noise.
