    Hard downshifting - how bad for the transmission?

    I'm at about 600 rwhp. If I hammer it when I'm in auto shift mode and let the trans drop a gear or two it downshifts hard. It's a violent downshift at WOT, much more than it was when the car was stock. Can the transmission handle this for long? Is the only way to save the trans is by manually downshifting then putting it into auto shift mode? It just feels hard on parts when I go WOT in Drive.

    I was told it was bad to stomp it WOT and let the car downshift. I don't know if you remember it or not, but stock the car was very slow to downshift, I suspect this was done to save the transmission.

    The hard slam on down shift can hurt. Have your tuner soften it up.

    Keep the downshift TM in the tune. I usually try to downshift manually before getting after it. But some times I get carried away.

    Manual downshift. Seen the 456 hub snap from a downshift with less power.

    It always feels like the car pulls harder when you just WOT and let it down shift, I cant get the same pull when I downshift to 4k rpm and step on it and tap-tap.

    Maybe its my mind, but now that I know letting it downshift when WOT may be hard on it I will probably manually shift :S

    I know what you mean. It's because you don't get the surprise pull. But the motor still makes the same power and as long as you downshift to the right gear you're good.
