Going to sound counterintuitive but go with an open face helmet. At only 3 track days a year you will appreciate the comfort, mine was only $250+/-

    Mikey,

Buy a good helmet. The old saying is: "if you have a 2 dollar head buy a 2 dollar helmet"

Check out some of the Bell products they a good quality at decent prices. Make sure you get one that is marked SA2010 or later. Do not buy a closeout helmet that is SA2005.

I have an HJC, and thinks it's kind of a POS. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it just doesn't fit my head very well, so I regret not getting something better. I was in a similar situation, where I originally was buying it for occasional use, but that turned into once or twice a month.

On the other hand, based on the number of times there has been a flail in the pits, and another driver grabbed my helmet because it was the closest available, then stanked it up for his 2 hour stint, I'm glad I didn't buy an Arai.

Try a bunch of sizes and shapes before just buying an expensive one... I tried a bunch and found that shape was more important than brand or price.

Homestead and it Def won't be that many. More drag then HPDE and that won't be more then a few per yr.

    Pretty much sums it up.

It amazes me that people have no problem shelling out thousands of dollars on the car and then go out and buy the cheapest bargain basement helmet they can find.

AGREE...it only takes once. I raced motorcycles for years and if you scramble your eggs it is all over!!!

I have an HJC and love it...it was one of their top of the line helmets (Snell approved) for 2015 and I bought it at the end of the year for right around $400. Have only used it once to run my Porsche 911 TT in the Wanna Go Fast 1/2 mile event when I lived in Florida. Actually thinking about selling it...comes with a nice bag???

    Mikey,
Let me know when you're doing homestead. I have some vouchers from HPDE and I'll go out there with you!

I love my Simpson Bandit. Its a full face but I t's not exactly inexpensive though.
The shield can be replaced with a tinted shield which is nice.
The helmet just plain looks badass as well.

I just spent a little over $800 and got an Arai. Well worth it for the best fitment and quality. I teetered between that and a Stilo, and Black Armour has some new offerings that are nice, and more on the affordable spectrum.

I use an open face so that I can communicate with my instructors on the track, super comfy but do feel like a goober, lol

I wound up with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and for the maybe 3xs per yr I will use it, it is good enough.
